Niall was born in Belfast, Northern Ireland, to a Catholic family, and was raised in Co. Kerry. Educated at the National University of Ireland, Galway, where he read English and Philosophy, it was on a vacation to Los Angeles where he chanced to meet his future wife, Lynn. After permanently settling in the South Bay in 2007, Niall became a member of Ascension Lutheran Church, where he participated in various Church sponsored programs, including a mission trip to Haiti in 2013.
