Week 18
David notices God’s presence remains in a tent while he lives in a palace, sparking his desire to build a temple.
God reveals through Nathan that David will not build the temple; it will be built by his offspring, ultimately pointing to Jesus.
The temple built by Solomon would be destroyed; the second temple rebuilt later was less magnificent and also destroyed in 70 AD.
Theory proposed: Building the temple was David’s idea, not God’s, reflecting human ambition rather than divine command.
David prepares materials and appoints workers for the temple, but God forbids him from building it due to his history of warfare.
God’s original instructions favored simple, uncut stones for altars, highlighting a preference for humility over grandeur.
God’s ways are “slow, strange, and faithful,” often requiring us to take one step at a time and wait for His timing.
